Biography

Shehu Buba Umar (born 2 October 1976) is a Nigerian politician and a senator representing Bauchi South constituency under the platform of All Progressive Congress. Shehu Buba was born on 2 October 1976 in Nabordo Village of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

He attended primary school in Newo-Foron, Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, and secondary schools in Government Day Secondary School Baraya in Bauchi State. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Adult Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Conflict Peace and Resolution Management from University of Jos.

Shehu Buba started his career as a classroom teacher. He was Senior Special Assistant to the former Bauchi State Governor Malam Isa Yuguda. He was the Special Adviser to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Shehu Buba is the Chairman, Farmers Herders Conflict Resolution Committee, Plateau State, and Chairman Farmers Herders Conflict Resolution Committee to the Federal Government of Nigeria. He is a Member of the World Food Economic Conference in Berlin, Germany.

He is the Executive Director, Business Development Aquawave Oil and Gas. Shehu Buba won the Bauchi South Senatorial District Election with 175,505 votes, defeating Garba Dahiru of the People Democratic Party (165,727 votes) and Lawal Gumau of the NNPP (3,739 votes).

Shehu Buba is a member of the 10th National Assembly. He chairs the Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act (Amendment) Bill, National Security Agencies Act (Amendment) Bill (2023), Federal Orthopedic Hospital Management Board (Amendment) Bill (2024), and Federal Medical Centre Act (Amendment) Bill (2023).

He moved motions for the Federal Government to provide CNG buses to NURTW, NARTO, and RTEAN to ease fuel subsidy removal and improve public transportation affordability. He also proposed the establishment of a custom training school with over ₦10 billion federal investment in Bauchi South.

Focusing on development, Shehu Buba created a 'Masterplan of Service' for job creation, farming support, road upgrades, rural electrification, and community development in Bauchi South.

Empowered 2,000 youth and women farmers across seven local government areas with hybrid seedlings, fertilizers, tractors, and farming materials for dry-season support as part of agriculture transformation.

Between 2023 and 2025, he installed 500 hand pump boreholes and 50 solar-powered overhead tanks across seven local governments in Bauchi South.

To eradicate poverty, he donated 1,000 motorcycles, 500 tricycles, and 1000 sewing machines to Bauchi South communities.

He constructed over 50 kilometers of roads in urban and rural areas of Bauchi South’s seven local government areas, including a 2.5-kilometer road in Zaranda town, Toro Local Government Area.

He installed over 10 transformers and streetlights across the seven local governments of Bauchi South.
