NGElections operates the website ngelections.com. This page explains how we collect and use information when you visit our site.

Information We Collect

You can browse NGElections without an account. If you choose to subscribe, we collect your email address and any name you provide. Our usage recorder also stores event names, pages, referrers, request IP addresses, browser information and event properties.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics collects usage data including pages visited, time spent on pages, referring websites and general location (country/city level). Usage data can contain online identifiers; it should not be treated as anonymous. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Our first-party recorder uses a random identifier stored in your browser to recognise returning browser activity, and a session identifier stored for the browser tab. These identify a browser context, not a verified person or someone across devices. Shared browsers can include activity from several people. Clearing site storage removes these identifiers from your browser; it does not erase previously recorded server events. We do not use an IP address to join browser histories. Vote Ready pages and readiness events omit the persistent browser identifier and retain existing session-based measurement.

Email Subscriptions

When you subscribe to election updates, we store your email address in our database and use Brevo to send our emails. We do not sell your email address or use it to send marketing from other organisations. For a new subscription outside Vote Ready, we also retain its source, landing and signup pages, referrer, and available browser and session identifiers. This lets authorised operators inspect activity associated with the signup browser; it does not verify who performed that activity. These signup associations are not added on Vote Ready or inferred for historical subscriptions. Your email is not included in public analytics event payloads. You can unsubscribe using the link in any email or by emailing hello@ngelections.com.

The Vote Ready Checklist

The checklist at /vote-ready/ keeps your progress in your own browser, not on our servers. It records only that you marked a step done, and the date you did. It never asks which candidate or party you support, and it never receives your voter identification number, PVC number, polling unit, or address. Those stay between you and INEC.

The state and races you explore, research review marks, and comparison choices stay in this tab's memory. They are not saved with your checklist or included in readiness event properties. Reloading clears research; you can also use "Clear research" or reset the checklist. A research selection does not establish where you are registered. Loading a public state guide requests a file for that area, and those requests and visits to public candidate and election pages remain subject to ordinary hosting logs and usage analytics.

We measure visible journey visits, race and record opening, source use, comparison use and explicit research review using fixed event names. Those events do not include the selected area, race, candidate, comparison pair or evidence URL. Automatic outbound URL tracking is suppressed for inline research source links, and Google Analytics data collection is disabled while using Vote Ready. These journey events go to our own usage recorder. We also measure which steps are marked done or undone, when an official INEC service is opened, whether the reader returns to this tab, when someone asks for help on a step, whether the saved-plan prompt is shown or used, and which polling-day calendar files are downloaded. The saved-plan events do not include your completed steps or completion count. These usage events use our existing analytics, including session identifiers and request IP addresses. Links to INEC are also measured with their destination URL. We do not receive your answers on INEC, the reason you need help, or your journey arrangements.

Anyone else using the same browser can see the ticks and the progress prompt across the site. The checklist has a "Reset checklist" button. The saved plan stops being read after the final polling day of the cycle it belongs to.

Cookies

Cookies used on this site include those set by Google Analytics for traffic analysis. First-party browser storage also holds the browser and tab identifiers described above, signup display state and Vote Ready checklist progress.

Data About Politicians

Candidate and politician information is sourced from publicly available records and official electoral publications. This relates to public figures acting in their public capacity.
