Maria Omozele Oligbi Edeko is a Nigerian politician, lawyer, and lawmaker currently representing the Esan North-East II Constituency in Edo State’s House of Assembly.

She was elected to this role at the 2023 elections under the PDP, having previously served as deputy speaker from June 2023 until her voluntary resignation in May 2025.

Born on May 12, 1963, in Uromi, Edo State, she attended local primary and secondary schools before studying French education at College of Education Abraka (Delta).

She earned a degree in French Education in 1991, followed by a master’s in Public Administration from the University of Benin in 1997.

Her legal training includes an LL.B (2000), B.L. (2004) leading to her call-to-bar, and an LLM from the University of Benin in 2007.

She entered politics as a candidate for Esan North-East Constituency in the 2019 State House elections but lost; later appointed commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues (2019–2023).

Edeko’s first electoral victory came in 2023, when she won her seat in Edo State’s House of Assembly.
