Biography

Dan Iya Manir Muhammad is a Nigerian politician who served as Deputy Governor of Sokoto State within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from 2018 to 2023.

He originates from Kware Local Government Area, Sokoto State, and identifies as a Muslim.

His educational background includes attendance at Magajin Gari Model Primary School in Sokoto (1977–1983), followed by Science Secondary School Farfaru (1983–1989).

He holds a BSc degree in Economics Education from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, supplemented by various higher education certificates, including a Higher Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the College of Administration, Sokoto.

His professional career spans ten years in the Nigerian Civil Service, where he worked with the Sokoto State Local Government Service Commission, eventually serving as Principal Accountant (until 2002) before resigning.

He entered politics in 2003, initially as Sole Administrator of Kware Local Government Council. In 2004, he became Executive Chairman of that council until 2007.

Post-political service, Dan Iya was Chairman and Managing Director of Manmodiya Nigeria Limited and served as Special Advisor to former Speaker of the House of Representatives Barrister Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (2011–2015).

In 2015, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal appointed him a member of Sokoto State Executive Council, later assigning him as Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development from 2019 onward.
