Political Career

Biography

Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, also known by the alias Yayi, was born on 10 August 1969 in Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. His parents are Ayinde Adeola Ogunleye and Abeeni Olasunbo Ogunleye (nΓ©e Akinola). He grew up in Alimosho, Lagos, beginning his education at State Primary School, Alimosho, before proceeding to Community Grammar School, Akowonjo, Lagos for secondary education.

He later attended Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State), where he earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting. Adeola holds a Chartered Accountant qualification and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

He worked for The Guardian Newspapers Limited for 12 years, rising to the position of Accountant. Later, he joined Olatunji Omoyeni & Co as a Senior Auditor before establishing his own firm, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, where he served as Managing Director and CEO, specializing in tax consultancy.

Adeola entered politics in the early 2000s, initially as a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), where he won the Lagos State primary and was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2011, representing Alimosho State Constituency 2. His tenure included key legislative contributions, such as strengthening the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service and passing the Fiscal Responsibility and Public Procurement Acts.

Elected to the Nigerian House of Representatives in 2011, he became Chairman of the Public Accounts Committeeβ€”a first for a member of the House. His political career advanced with re-election to the Senate in 2019, representing Lagos West, and again in 2023, this time for Ogun West Senatorial District.

Since 2023, Adeola has served as Senator for Ogun West, holding prominent roles in Senate committees, including Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Vice Chairman of the Communications Committee. He also serves on Finance, Marine, Interior, and Science & Technology committees.

Adeola’s professional and public recognition includes honors such as the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) conferred in 2022 and the title of Fellow of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, awarded in 2022. He was also named Sun Newspapers Man of the Year for 2025 in 2026.
