Biography

Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, also known by the alias Yayi, is a Nigerian politician who has served as Senator for Ogun West since 2023. He previously served as the Senator from Lagos West from 2015 to 2023.

Born on 10 August 1969 at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Adeola is a chartered accountant and a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). His parents are Ayinde Adeola Ogunleye and Abeeni Olasunbo Ogunleye (née Akinola).

He grew up in Alimosho, Lagos, where he began his education at State Primary School in Alimosho, Lagos. He proceeded to Community Grammar School, Akowonjo, Lagos for his secondary education.

Adeola attended the Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo state), where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting.

He is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Adeola had a career with The Guardian Newspapers Limited for 12 years, rising to the position of Accountant.

He later worked at Olatunji Omoyeni & Co, a chartered accounting firm, leading the audit team and later becoming a Senior Auditor. He established his own company, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, where he served as Managing Director and CEO, specializing in tax consultancy.

Adeola joined active politics during the dawn of the 4th Republic. He was nominated and won the primary election of the Action Congress of Nigeria (Lagos State) and was elected as a member to represent Alimosho State Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007, and again from 2007 to 2011.

He is reputed to have been instrumental in enacting the law that strengthened the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, increasing the state's revenue from N5 billion monthly to over N20 billion. Adeola was part of the team that passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Public Procurement Act of Lagos State.

Elected to the Federal Legislature, he represented Alimosho Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representatives from 2011. As a first-time member, he became Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the House.

Adeola was re-elected as a Senator representing Lagos West in the 2019 general elections. In the 2023 general elections, he contested for the Senator for Ogun West Senatorial District and was elected to represent Ogun West Senatorial District.

He was named the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations in the 10th Senate on 8 August 2023. Adeola serves as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications and is a member of the Finance, Marine, Interior, and Science and Technology committees.

He was conferred with the Nigerian National Honour of Commander Of The Order Of The Niger (CON) by President Muhammadu Buhari on 11 October 2022. Adeola was awarded the title of Fellow of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro on 31 March 2022.

On 31 January 2026, Adeola was awarded the title of Sun Newspapers Man of the Year 2025.
