Biography

Chinedu Benjamin Obidigwe is a Nigerian politician who served as a member of the House of Representatives for Anambra East/Anambra West Federal Constituency.

Born in 1979, he originates from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Obidigwe Adumaka from Isiokwe, Mkpunado Aguleri, both farmers.

He obtained a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and NECO, attending Community Primary School, Ojor in Uzouwani Local Government Area of Enugu State for primary school, and secondary education at Father Joseph Secondary School, Aguleri. He later completed his studies at Model Secondary School Olo, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Before pursuing higher education, Obidigwe worked as a volunteer teacher. He earned a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science from Ebonyi State University.

He served in various capacities within Anambra politics: Transitional Chairman of Anambra East Local Government (2012โ€“2019), Senior Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Willie Obiano, and later as a member of the House Committee on Environment as Vice Chairman.

In the 2019 House of Representatives elections under APGA, he won with 28,657 votes. His victory was contested by the PDP, leading to a court petition alleging misrepresentation of age, education, and occupation, as well as disqualification due to past public service.

Following his election loss in the 2023 elections (APGA), he was later expelled from APGA in 2021 for alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct. Despite this, he remains active in grassroots political movements like the United Anambra Youths Assembly (U-AYA) and United Anambra Women Assembly (U-AWA).

He faced accusations of assault in 2023 by Chinedu Anaukwu, who claimed Obidigwe assaulted him for demanding accountability. The case was withdrawn after legal proceedings, though no compensation or conviction was secured.

In 2021, guns were reportedly discovered in his residence, though he denied ownership and dismissed the claim as false. He also received an award of excellence in community service from ASATU in 2019.
