Nkwonta Christian

Christian 'Chris' Nkwonta, born on November 3, 1960, in Akwete, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria, is a politician representing the Ukwa East/Ukwa West federal constituency.

Raised in a humble background, he attended Community Secondary School, Akwete, often missing classes to support his studies through farming and fishing before completing secondary education.

He pursued higher education abroad, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies at the Center for Business Studies, London (now part of University of Greenwich) in 1981.

After returning to Nigeria in 1985 to complete his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he joined the Nigerian Ports Authority and later worked in maritime, shipping, logistics, oil and gas, and hospitality sectors.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with specialization in Leadership and Sustainability from the University of Cumbria, UK (2012–2014).

Over three decades in professional roles—including at True Venture Nigeria Limited, Floor Mills of Nigeria PLC, Exon Mobil Limited, Fymak Nigeria Limited, and Shell Petroleum Development Company—he developed expertise in transport administration.

He became a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Chartered Institute of Transport Administration, London, UK. In 2003, he founded BlueSeas Maritime Services.

Politically active, Nkwonta serves as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Climate Change and Chairman of the House Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC).
