Darlington Nwokocha is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2023 Nigerian Senate Elections as the Labour Party (LP) candidate in Abia.
Biography
Darlington Nwokocha was born on 16 August 1967 and is a Nigerian politician affiliated with the Labour Party (LP).
He served as senator representing Abia Central from June to November 2023, though his tenure was later nullified by the Court of Appeal due to election challenges.
Before entering politics, he held positions in local government, including as chairman of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
Elected to the House of Representatives for Isiala-Ngwa North/Isiala-Ngwa South (2015β2019), Nwokocha chaired Insurance and Actuarial Matters during his tenure there.
He previously served in Abia Stateβs House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015. His political career began with local government leadership before broader representation.
Educated in Abia State, he earned a bachelorβs degree from the University of Calabar and advanced degrees in Environmental Pollution Control (MSc) and Environmental Management (Ph.D).
His first major election was to the 9th National Assembly as a PDP candidate in 2019. In 2023, he ran for the Senate under LP, representing Abia Central.
Despite winning at a lower tribunal, his victory was overturned by the Court of Appeal on appeal from Col Austin Akobundu (retd), who secured confirmation as the new senator.
