Dankwambo Ibrahim Hassan is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2023 Nigerian Senate Elections as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Gombe.
Biography
Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, born on April 4, 1962 in Gombe State, is a Nigerian politician who has held key administrative roles and political offices.
He earned his degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1985. Later, he obtained an MSc in Economics from the University of Lagos in 1992 and a PhD in Accounting from Igbinedion University.
His professional career began with Coopers & Lybrand in 1985 before joining the Central Bank of Nigeria from 1988 to 1999. He served as Accountant-General of Gombe State until 2005, later becoming Accountant-General of the Federation on April 20, 2005.
Dankwambo held positions on the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria and resigned in January 2011 to run for governor of Gombe State. He was elected governor in the 26th April 2011 election with a significant margin over rivals from other parties.
During his tenure as governor, he faced loss of a deputy due to an accident in 2011 and later appointed new deputies over two terms until his resignation in 2019.
After stepping down as governor, Dankwambo was elected into the Nigerian Senate during the 2023 elections under the PDP, winning against his closest opponent.
