Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo was born on 4 April 1962 in Herwagana, Gombe State.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, obtained in 1985.
In 1992, he earned a Master of Science degree in Economics and later pursued a PhD in Accounting from Igbinedion University.
His professional career began with Coopers & Lybrand in 1985. From 1988 to 1999, he worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He served as Accountant-General of Gombe State until 2005 before being appointed Accountant-General of the Federation on 20 April 2005.
Dankwambo was part of the Board of Directors for the Central Bank of Nigeria during his tenure at the bank and later in his federal capacity.
He resigned from this position to run for Governor of Gombe State in January 2011, winning the election on 26 April 2011 with 596,481 votes.
During his first term as governor (2011β2015), he lost his deputy, David Miyims Albashi, who died in Germany due to injuries from a car crash in August 2011. Tha'anda Rubainu was appointed Deputy Governor on 17 December 2011.
Re-elected in the 2015 Governorship Elections with support of 285,369 votes (as per provided data), he served until his second term ended in 2019. Charles Yau Iliya was his deputy governor during this period.
After leaving office as Governor, Dankwambo ran for the Senate under the PDP in the 2023 elections, winning with 143,155 votes against Senator Saidu Alkaliβs 77,948 votes. He assumed office as a senator for Gombe North since 2023.
He is a fellow of several professional bodies including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and Chartered Institute of Bankers.
