Biography

Muktar Tolani Shagaya, born on December 16, 1989, in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, is a politician and current member of the House of Representatives representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency since June 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He began his education at Lebanese Community School in Yaba, Lagos, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate in 1999. He later attended Adesoye College in Offa, Kwara State, and Rockwell College in Ireland before pursuing advanced studies in the UK. From 2003 to 2008, he studied at Malvern College in Worcestershire, obtaining a B.Sc. in International Relations from the University of Plymouth. He later earned an MSc in International Development and Development Management from the University of Manchester.

Before politics, Tolani worked as a Junior Assistant at Infrastructure Bank PLC (2013), Business Development Manager at Karmod Nigeria Prefabricated Technologies, and Energy Executive at the Rural Electrification Agency. He also held the position of executive director at Asolar Systems Nigeria Limited.

In his political career, Shagaya has sponsored over 15 bills, co-sponsored others, and introduced motions in the House of Representatives. He serves as deputy chairman of the Committee on Basic Education & Services and is known for advocating for educational reforms, healthcare expansions, and infrastructure projects across Nigeria.
