Biography

Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and philanthropist affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He currently serves as a member of the 10th Senate from Nasarawa South Senatorial District.

He previously held positions in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, including Speaker between 2003 and 2007. He also served as a member of the National Assembly’s House of Representatives for the 7th and 8th terms (2011–2019), representing Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency.

Onawo earned secondary education at A.T.C. Akwanga, attended Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, and later studied at Nasarawa State University. His professional career includes leadership roles in state and national legislative bodies, including committee chairmanships on Industries (2011–2015) and ICT (2015–2019).

In 2019, he contested the PDP primary for Nasarawa South Senatorial District but lost before being nominated as Deputy Gubernatorial candidate. He regained the party ticket in 2022, securing 88 delegates’ votes against rival Mike Omeri’s 76.

His 2023 Senate election victory over incumbent APC senator Tanko Al-Makura—who polled 76,813 votes—surprised political analysts. Onawo won 93,064 votes, defeating Al-Makura across all five local governments in the district.
