Political Career

Biography

Joseph Ogba was born in 1961 in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, specifically in Nkalagu, Ishielu Local Government Area.

He attended Command Secondary School in Nkalagu, where he earned his General Certificate of Education in 1975.

Ogba later studied at Federal Polytechnic, Oko, obtaining a Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication.

He began his career in 1986 as a referee in the Nigerian Football Referee Association.

From 1995 to 1997, he served as Chairman of the Nigeria Football Referee Council in Anambra State.

In 1997, he was part of the Federal Government’s delegation to the United States for image-building efforts.

He transitioned into politics in 1998, becoming Chairman of Ishielu Local Government in Ebonyi State.

Subsequently, he was appointed Chairman of Chairmen (ALGON) in Ebonyi State.

He held the position of Chairman for Ebonyi Angels Football Club from 1999 to 2002.

While still in that role, he became Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Ebonyi State in 2002.

In 2003, he was appointed Chairman of the Football Association in Ebonyi State.

Ogba later served as Chairman of the marketing and sponsor committee for the Nigeria Football Federation in 2006.

He contested and won the 2015 general elections, representing Ebonyi Central senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate.

He was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports and has been re-elected into the Senate for a second term since 2019.
