Biography

Adamu Garba Talba (born 15 August 1952) was a Nigerian politician and senator in the 6th National Assembly. He was a native of Karai-Karai in Nangere, Yobe State.

He was elected Senator for the Yobe South constituency of Yobe State, Nigeria, taking office on 29 May 2007.

Talba gained a diploma in Public Administration and entered the Yobe State Civil Service. He was twice elected council chairman of Nangere Local Government Council in Yobe State. He held appointments such as Chairman of the Board of Management, Federal Medical Centre, Alare, Director of the National Demographic and Health Commission (NNDC) in Kaduna, and Commissioner of Health for Yobe State.

As Senator, in September 2008, he advocated for the establishment of a National Desert Commission to address desert encroachment in northern Nigeria. He was a vocal critic of Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Geidam, accusing him of mismanagement and calling for investigations into contracts awarded to BECCON Nigeria, including N4 billion for the Kaliyari-Baimari road, N2.3 billion for the Damaturu water works, and N1.3 billion for unspecified renovations to secondary schools.

In December 2009, Talba stated that the democratic process was functioning normally, criticizing opposition efforts to form a 'mega party' against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He urged opposition politicians to align with either the PDP or the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). In March 2010, he denied reports that former Yobe Central Senator Usman Albishir, who had switched from ANPP to PDP, would receive a party ticket for the 2011 governorship election. He noted that Albishir’s move would mark the end of ANPP’s presence in Yobe.
