Yar'adua Abdulaziz Musa

Abdulaziz Musa Yar'Adua, born on 4 August 1964 in Katsina, is a Nigerian politician and retired military officer who serves as the senator representing Katsina Central senatorial district since 2023.

He started his education at Musa Yar'Adua Quranic Model Primary School in Katsina from 1970 to 1976, followed by secondary studies at Nigerian Military School Zaria between 1976 and 1981. His higher education included a bachelor’s degree in physics from the College of Advanced Studies, Zaria (1981–1984), and later degrees in science and technology from Ahmadu Bello University (1987) before proceeding to Rochester Institute of Technology in New York for an electrical engineering master’s degree (1993).

A retired Nigerian Army lieutenant colonel, Yar'Adua served from 1981 until his voluntary retirement in 2010. He held various military appointments, including roles in the Signals Corps and attended specialized training courses on communications, force protection, and peacekeeping.

After retiring from the army, he entered politics, joining the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2010 before merging into the All Progressives Congress (APC). He contested multiple times for gubernatorial and senatorial positions but lost party primaries to rivals until winning the APC primary election for Katsina Central Senatorial District in May 2022.

Elected senator on 27 February 2023, Yar'Adua defeated Aminu Sirajo of the PDP. He is a younger brother of former President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and former Chief of Staff General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua. He holds military honors like the Silver Jubilee Medal and chieftaincy titles such as Mutawallen Katsina (conferred in 2020) and Akijiogo I from Ezeokwe Kingdom, Enugu State.
