Tunji-Ojo Olubunmi

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, born on May 1, 1982 in Oyin Akoko, Ondo State, is an engineer, entrepreneur, and politician who serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior since August 2023.

He previously represented Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives (2019–2023) on the APC platform. During his tenure, he chaired the Niger Delta Development Commission Committee and investigated alleged corruption amounting to over ₦80 billion.

Tunji-Ojo earned a BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University (1999–2002), later pursuing an MSc in Electronics and Communication Engineering at London Metropolitan University (2005). He holds certifications as a CompTIA Network Plus Engineer, an ethical hacker, and Britannia Hardware A+ Management Certificate.

Before politics, he worked as CEO of Matrix IT Solutions Limited by age 24. As a consultant, he advised the World Bank and Nigerian agencies like PTDF and NCDMB. In 2016, he organized Nigeria’s first indigenous oil/gas content workshop to boost local participation.

Elected into the House in 2019, Tunji-Ojo mobilized lawmakers to support Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila’s leadership bid. After resigning from the National Assembly (August 2023), he assumed his current role under President Bola Tinubu, focusing on reforms in immigration, border security, and corrections.

As Minister of Interior, he has promoted over 32,000 personnel, modernized NSCDC/NCoS systems, and streamlined passport services. His initiatives include advanced biometric deployments and collaborations with security agencies.

Married to Abimbola Tunji-Ojo (also from Ondo), the couple has two children. Awards include honorary degrees in Public Administration from Joseph Ayo Babalola University (2021) and prestigious leadership honors like the Kwame Nkrumah Award.
