Salam Bamidele is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2019 House of Representative Elections as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Osun. They won with 47K votes (51.16%).
Biography
Bamidele Salam, born on October 1, 1969, is a lawyer, journalist, and politician from Osun State.
He began his career as a Radio & Television News Reporter for the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation in Oแนฃogbo between 1994 and 2003. During this period, he served as Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists from 1997 to 2000, then became Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists from 2000 to 2003.
From 2003 to 2007, he worked as a media assistant to Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola in Osun State.
His political career started with membership in the defunct Peoples Solidarity Party. In 2008, he was elected Chairman of Egbedore Local Government on the PDP platform.
He served as Head of Media for the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, from 2012 to 2015.
In 2015, he founded CALDEV (Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative), where he remains president.
As a Member of the House of Representatives since 2019, Salam represented Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituencies in Osun State. He won again in 2023.
Among his roles, he chaired the Committee on Public Accounts in the 10th National Assembly and was a member of the ECOWAS Parliament since March 2020. He also participated in election observation missions to Niger and The Gambia.
During his tenure in the House of Representatives (9th and 10th assemblies), he sponsored several bills, including those related to volunteer services, sickle cell disease prevention, employment reform, micro-credit funds, university hospital boards, security agencies appreciation, pension reforms, and civil service recruitment.
