Abel Peter Diah was born on 1 June 1971 in Mbamnga, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.
He completed primary and secondary education in Mbamnga ward under Sardauna Local Government.
Diah studied business administration at the Federal University of Technology, Yola, where he developed an early interest in politics.
His political career began in 1996 when he was elected Councillor for Warwar Ward under the Zero Party System, focusing on Health and Natural Resources. He later served as Caretaker Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council (1996–1997).
In 1998, Diah joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and contested elections into the Taraba State House of Assembly in 2003, representing Mbamnga constituency. His consistent re-election—six times in succession—established him as the longest-serving member in the assembly.
He held various roles in standing and ad hoc committees before being elected Deputy Speaker in 2011. In June 2015, he became Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, later re-elected in April 2016 after a court-ordered rerun for his constituency.
Diah resigned as Speaker on 2 December 2019 due to personal reasons. During his tenure, he served as Secretary of the PDP Speakers Forum and Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Speakers.
