Biography

Prince Chinedu Munir Nwoko (born 21 December 1960), popularly known as Ned Nwoko, is a Nigerian lawyer, philanthropist, and politician who serves as the senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate.

He was a member of the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003, representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Delta State. In January 2020, he undertook a symbolic expedition to Antarctica to flag off a malaria eradication project.

Nwoko was elected to represent the people of Delta North senatorial district in 2023 in the Senate of Nigeria. His election was upheld by the Court of Appeal in Asaba.

Born on 21 December 1960 into the Nwoko Royal Family, Idumuje Ugboko Kingdom in Aniocha North Local Government Area, he received primary and secondary education in Nigeria.

He moved to the United Kingdom, obtaining his first degree in Law and History at the University of Keele, Staffordshire, UK. He also attended King’s College London, where he obtained an LLM in maritime and commercial law.

Nwoko was subsequently called to the English bar at Lincoln’s Inn. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree in Letters (D.Litt) by Commonwealth University College, Belize.

Nwoko began his legal career with the Crown Prosecution Service, qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, and worked at Kumars Solicitors and Pascaldiers & Co Solicitors before establishing Ned Nwoko & Co Solicitors in London.

During his time in the UK, he was secretary general of the Nigerian legal practitioners UK, a member of the Law Society, England and Wales, and visiting adviser at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau in London. He was recognized as the best black lawyer of African descent in England in 1995.

Nwoko returned to Nigeria in December 1998 and entered politics by being elected as a member of the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003.

He was instrumental in the London and Paris Club Loans refund into Nigeria, authored reports leading to the discontinuation of monthly deductions from states' allocations and the commencement of refunds to states.

Through his law firm, Ned Nwoko Solicitors, and company Linas International, he investigated multinational creditors, discovered discrepancies in loan repayments, and secured a $3.2 billion judgment for local governments, leading to the refund of over US$20 billion to states and local governments.

Nwoko served on the Vision 2010 Committee and is a member of the capital market. He was the chairman of the External Committee of Vision 2010 and chairman of Project Tourism Africa.

In 2023, he founded Sports University, Idumuje-Ugboko, which was granted a license by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2022 as the first specialized sports university in sub-Saharan Africa.

Nwoko is the founder of the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, supporting youth empowerment and educational initiatives. In 2019, the foundation donated US$273,000 (₦100 million) for road rehabilitation.

He initiated the Ned Nwoko Malaria Eradication Project, supporting malaria vaccine research through partnerships with African universities and research institutions. He planted the Nigerian flag at the South Pole during his 2020 expedition.

On January 30, 2025, Nwoko announced his resignation from the PDP to join the All Progressive Congress (APC). His marriage to Regina Daniels became publicly scrutinized in late 2025.

Daniels, married to Nwoko since 2019, made allegations of manipulation, control, and involvement in fraud and murder, though no evidence was provided. Nwoko’s team dismissed these claims, stating Daniels was 19 at marriage and that she entered therapy or rehabilitation.

Independent toxicology reports confirmed drug presence in Daniels’ system, and a nurse’s statement alleged Daniels requested lethal dosages and ketamine preparation. Nwoko denied physical assault claims.

He faced allegations of land grabbing in his hometown, which he dismissed as false, explaining the land was allocated for a University of Sports.

Nwoko has several wives and many children. He married Nollywood actress Regina Daniels in 2017.
