Biography

Kelechi Nwogu is a Nigerian politician, serving as a state legislator and member of the Rivers State House of Assembly since 2011.

He represents Omuma State Constituency in the party of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Born in Port Harcourt, he began his political career by working as an aide to former officials before being elected into office.

Elected first in 2011 and re-elected in 2015 and 2019, Nwogu held key committee chairs such as sports (2011) and local government and chieftaincy affairs (2015–2019).

He initially sought the PDP’s House of Representatives nomination for Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in 2019 but withdrew to support another candidate, who won.

In his legislative tenure, he sponsored and co-sponsored bills, including one on disengagement between Rivers State indigenes and Abia State civil service and another regulating hotel operations in the state.

Nwogu opposed Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s administration and later led efforts to impeach Speaker Otelemaba Amachree. He also organized protests against the Rivers State Police SARS on behalf of Omuma residents.

Married with four children, he has received recognition, such as an Excellence and Philanthropy Award in football development from the Rivers State Football Coaches Association.
