Biography

Mohammed Sani Musa CON (born 11 May 1965) is a politician and senator representing the Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State at the Nigerian National Assembly. He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he bagged a B.Sc. in Business Administration in 1990, specializing in Banking and Finance. Among other impressive academic records, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management from the University of London and a Postgraduate Certificate in International Management from the University of Liverpool.

Mohammed Sani Musa is a ranking member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and was a top contender for the position of Senate President at the 10th National Assembly. He was born on 11 May 1965 in Niger State. He attended Zarumai Primary School, Minna, where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate in 1978. He proceeded to Government Secondary School - Kontagora and bagged his GCSE in 1983. Subsequently, in 1990, he bagged a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Banking, and Finance, and completed his mandatory NYSC program in 1991.

Mohammed Sani Musa's legislative roles as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria span between 2019 till date. His roles have included being the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and membership in other committees such as the Committee on Appropriation, Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Committee on Petroleum Resources Upstream, Committee on FCT, Committee on Water Resources, Committee on Foreign and Local Debt, Constitution Review Committee of the Senate, and others.

His previous legislative roles held between 2019 and 2023 included: Chairman, Committee on Senate Services (2019-2023); Chairman, Ad-hoc Committee for the Investigation of Uneven Distribution of Loans, Palliatives, and Interventions (2022); Member, Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Pipeline Vandalism (July 2019). He was also a Member of the APC National Executive Council (2019–2023), Director, Special Duties (Special Operations) APC Presidential Campaign Council (2022–2023), and National Delegate for APC (2022) and PDP (2007).

He was a Gubernatorial Aspirant for PDP Niger State in 2007. Previously, he was Ex-Officio of the Defunct All Peoples Party (ANPP) Niger State (1999) and Ex-Officio of the Defunct UNCP Niger State Chapter (1997). He was President of the Zodiac Club, ABU Zaria, in 1988.

Mohammed Sani Musa is an eminent blend of public and private practice. He was Chairman of Activate Technologies Limited (2011–2017), Managing Director/CEO of First Pacific Nigeria Ltd (1997–2007), and Special Adviser to the Niger State Government on Investment and Infrastructure (2007–2011). He also served as Director with Niger State Development Co. Ltd (2008–2011) and Chairman of the Task Force on Environmental Management, Niger State (2007–2008). Before graduating, he worked as an Account Officer with the Niger State Water Board (1986–1990) and at Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited in Port Harcourt during his mandatory NYSC (1991).

As a Senator, he has championed several bills, including the National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill (2021), FCT Borderline Community Development Commission Bill (2021), Critical Infrastructure Protection Bill (2021), National University of Health and Medical Sciences Suleja Bill (2021), Loan Recovery Bill (2020), Constitutional Court of Nigeria Bill (2020), Constituency Delimitation Centre Bill (2020), Nigerian Civil Defence Academy Pandogari Bill (2019), Teaching Hospital Development Tax Fund Bill (2019), Protection from Internet Falsehoods and Manipulations Bill (2019), Rape and Insurgency Victims Stigmatization Bill (2019), Federal Orthopedic Hospital Kuta Bill (2019), among others.

He has been a Member of the Niger State Economic & Social Advisory Council since 2007, Steering Committee of the Business Support Group for Vision 2020, Delegate to the Presidential Trade Mission to Japan (2006), and Member of the Niger Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (2000 to date). He is also a Patron of the Tea and Coffee Producers Association of Nigeria (2008), Member of the National Sesame Seed Association of Nigeria (2008), and Member of the Board of Trustees, National Shea Products Association of Nigeria. He has been a Member of the Stakeholders Group on Diversification of Commerce in Nigeria (Commerce 44) and Shippers Association of Nigeria since 2006.

Awards and honors include the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON) in 2022, Fellow of Education from the College of Education Minna (2007), and Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State. In October 2022, he was conferred the Nigerian national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by President Muhammadu Buhari. On February 7, 2019, the Federal High Court, Abuja, declared him the Niger East Senatorial District candidate for the APC, winning the primary election held on October 2, 2018. He won the Niger East Senatorial District election on February 23, 2019, with 229,415 votes against Ibrahim Ishaku’s 116,143 votes. The Nigerian Supreme Court in Abuja declared him the winner of the last Senate election in the Niger-East Senatorial District on June 14, 2019, setting aside the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
