Mukhtar Ramalan Yero is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2015 Governorship Elections as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Kaduna. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero received 486K votes.

Biography

Mukhtar Ramalan Yero was born on May 1, 1968, in Unguwan Kaura, Zaria, Kaduna State.

He began his education at LEA Primary School, Kaura from 1974 to 1980 before moving to Government Secondary School Ikara (1980–1985) and then Government Secondary School, Zaria (1985–1986).

Yero earned a Diploma in Banking from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He later obtained a B.Sc in Accounting in 1991 and a Master’s in Business Administration.

As a Certified Public Accountant, he started his professional career as an Assistant Accountant during his National Youth Service Corps (1991–1992) with the Ogun State Purchasing Corporation.

After completing his service, Yero worked as Higher Executive Officer in Bursary Department at Ahmadu Bello University (1993). He later held positions as Accountant Supervisor at Nigerian Universal Bank Limited and Chief Accountant at Nalado Nigerian Limited, rising to Director of Finance and Administration by 2007.

Appointed Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance from 2007 until May 2010, he was later chosen by Governor Patrick Yakowa as Deputy Governor in 2010 after Namadi Sambo’s vice-presidential election.

Following the death of Yakowa in a helicopter crash in December 2012, Yero succeeded him as Governor of Kaduna State until April 2015.

In the 2015 Governorship Elections, he ran for re-election under the PDP but lost to Nasir el-Rufai of the APC.
