Biography
Sunday Steve Karimi is a Nigerian politician serving as senator for Kogi West Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He held representation in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019, covering Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro constituencies.
In an interview with Channels TV, Karimi defended Senate’s need for imported SUVs by comparing it to ministers’ excessive vehicle ownership, citing poor roads as a justification.
Born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government, Kogi State, he studied Production Engineering at Kwara State College of Technology (distinction, 1979) and trained at Titcombe College (SIM-affiliated).
His political rise included securing the APC ticket in a primary election backed by incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello before defeating Smart Adeyemi in the 2023 senatorial race.
A key figure in water resources, Karimi has sponsored bills like one barring CBN governors from politics, which passed second reading in 2023.
He constructed a military base for Kogi West’s security and rehabilitated solar-powered boreholes and water schemes (totaling N1.24 billion).
Known for addressing insecurity, he cautioned Senate colleagues to lead by example on issues like security.
