Izunaso Osita Bonaventure is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2023 Nigerian Senate Elections as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Imo.

Biography

Osita B. Izunaso, born on 30 October 1966, is a Senator representing Imo West (Orlu) in the Nigerian Senate since June 2023.

He holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Jos and postgraduate qualifications in journalism and business administration from the University of Abuja and University of Calabar respectively.

His political career includes terms as House of Representatives member (1992, 1999), Chief Press Secretary to government officials, and ministerial roles in Labour & Productivity (1998–1999) and Youth & Sports (1995–1997).

Since his Senate appointment, he has chaired key committees such as Rules & Business, Local/Foreign Debts, Housing, Gas, Foreign Affairs, and Sports.

In mid-term evaluations, notable bills sponsored by Izunaso include those on vehicle conveyance, conflict victims’ care, local languages promotion, and oil pipelines reforms.

From 2013 to 2018, he served as APC’s National Organizing Secretary, shaping party organizational frameworks during his five-year tenure.

He later led the NADDC Governing Council (2018–2022), driving automotive industry policies and innovation in Nigeria’s automotive sector.

As chairman of KpaKpando Foundation, he advocates for disability rights, influencing legislation to protect persons with disabilities.

His legal education includes an LLB First Class from Nile University and a Second Class Upper degree as Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

In August 2023, Izunaso was appointed Senate committee chairman on Capital Markets for the 10th Senate.
