Hassan Mohammed Danjuma is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2023 House of Representative Elections as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate in Kano.
Biography
Mohammed Danjuma Goje, born on 10 October 1952 in Pindiga, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, was a former Governor of Gombe State under the Peopleβs Democratic Party (PDP).
He studied political science at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and served as a member of Bauchi State House of Assembly from 1979 to 1983. Between 1984 and 1989, he worked as Secretary of the National Institute for Medical Research in Lagos before establishing his own business, Zaina Nigeria Ltd, between 1989 and 1999.
In 1998, Goje contested and won the seat of Senator representing Gombe State on the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) platform. He later became Minister of State for Power and Steel under President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2001.
He was twice elected Governor of Gombe State, serving from 2003 until his resignation on 29 May 2011. After leaving office, he ran again for the Senate seat in 2011 and won it on the PDP ticket, re-elected in subsequent years including 2023.
From June 2019 to June 2023, Danjuma Goje served as Chairman of the Marine Transport Committee in the Senate. He stepped down from this position after being nominated for the Senate Presidency by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He has received various awards including Awards of Excellence and Exemplary Leadership, YOWICAN Award of Excellence, Nigerian Medical Association Special Merit Award (ASCON), Youth Merit Award, and Merit Award (NIOB) in 2009.
