Bassey Eko Ewa is a Nigerian politician affiliated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and previously associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Born in Cross River State around 1968, he represents the political landscape of Yakurr Local Government Area.
As a member of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2015, Ewa served four terms representing the Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency. He held key roles within the PDP, including Majority Leader and Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly before transitioning to national party leadership.
In 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Cross River State PDP Caretaker Committee by the PDP National Working Committee to oversee party operations during a transitional period. He later joined reformist efforts under ‘House to the Rescue,’ advocating for electronic transmission of election results to improve transparency in Nigerian politics.
During the 2015 general elections, Ewa faced opposition within his Yakurr community before securing victory with 88 votes out of 89 cast. His tenure included initiatives like improving Ugep’s urban renewal infrastructure and promoting cultural tourism through the Leboku festival.
Ewa championed educational support—distributing scholarships, constructing classrooms, and establishing an ICT center in Ekori—and implemented health programs, including free medical outreach and solar-powered boreholes. He also supported community empowerment via skills training and distributed business grants (e.g., tricycles, motorcycles).
Despite a 2023 Senate loss to Eteng Jonah Williams (APC), he remains active in Cross River politics, continuing advocacy for governance reforms and local development.
