Biography

Bassey Eko Ewa is a Nigerian politician affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency of Cross River State.

He was born in Ntan, Ekori, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Ewa served as a four-time member of the House of Representatives for the constituency and was succeeded by Alex Egbona. He held positions such as Majority Leader and former Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly.

In 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Cross River State PDP Caretaker Committee by the PDP National Working Committee to manage party affairs after the expiration of the state executive committee’s tenure.

Ewa joined the coalition House to the Rescue in 2025, advocating for electronic transmission of election results to improve transparency in future elections.

During the 2015 general elections, he faced opposition from Yakurr community stakeholders but won with 88 out of 89 votes. He later expressed interest in contesting a senatorial seat in 2023 but lost to Eteng Jonah Williams (APC).

He has driven community development initiatives, including improving road infrastructure in Ugep through the Urban Renewal Programme and promoting the Leboku cultural festival to boost cultural tourism and government engagement.
