Biography
David Jimkuta is a Nigerian politician currently serving as Senator for the Taraba South senatorial district since 2023.
He was elected in the 2023 Nigerian Senate elections on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, defeating Darius Ishaku, then-governor of Taraba State and a candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jimkuta secured 85,415 votes compared to Ishaku’s 45,708, marking one of the significant political upsets in the elections.
His APC nomination was initially contested; after legal battles, including appeals at the Federal High Court and Supreme Court, Jimkuta emerged as the party’s valid candidate for Taraba South.
Despite his election, Jimkuta faced expulsion from the APC on 8 April 2023 over alleged anti-party activities.
