Biography

Kabiru Alhassan Rurum is a Nigerian politician and businessman from Kano State, serving as Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly between 2015โ€“2017 and again in 2018โ€“2019.

He currently represents the Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives since 2019, holding the traditional title of Turakin Rano from Rano Emirate.

Born on January 1, 1970, in Katanga quarters of Rurum within Rano Local Government Area, Kano State, he attended primary and secondary schools locally before obtaining a National Diploma in Administration Management (2000) and an Advanced Diploma from Federal College of Education, Kano (2002).

He began his business career with the Nigerian Center of Commerce in Kano, later relocating to Lagos State. His political rise included roles as chairman of Mile 12 Perishable Market before entering politics.

His early political engagement started in Lagos State as a Market Leader and Councillor (1997) for Hausa Community wards, returning to Kano where he served as Supervisory Councillor for Works (2000โ€“2002).

Elected to the Kano State House of Assembly in 2011, he became Majority Leader and later Speaker after winning re-election in 2015. He resigned amid impeachment allegations against Yusuf Abdullahi Ata but was reinstated as Speaker following a motion by Labaran Abdul Madari and Abdullahi Chiromawa.

Since the 2019 general election, Rurum has served as an NNPP member of the House of Representatives for his federal constituency.
