Biography

Patrick Ayo Akinyelure is a Nigerian banker and politician born in Idanre.

He was elected to the Nigerian Senate for Ondo Central district on the Labour Party ticket, winning re-election under similar circumstances in 2011 with over 113,000 votes against his PDP rival Gbenga Ogunniya’s 41,783 votes.

Akinyelure served as Group Executive Chairman of Allover Group, a microfinance institution, from 1994 to 2010. He is also an approved tax practitioner by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

In January 2011, he denied any investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the bank’s licence withdrawal by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He ran for the Ondo South Senatorial seat on Labour Party ticket in April 2007. In July 2008, an Election Petition Tribunal nullified Gbenga Ogunniya’s victory, citing Akinyelure’s petition; the decision was later overturned on appeal.
