Biography

Aminu Iya Abbas (born **January 1, 1973**) is a Nigerian politician representing Adamawa Central in the Senate, previously serving as Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly (2019–2023). He was elected to two terms as a Member of the House of Assembly (2011–2015, 2019–present) and held key roles such as Chief Whip and Deputy Minority Leader.

Born in Yola, Adamawa State, Iya attended Central Primary School in Uba, Hong. He earned a BSc in Accounting from Bayero University Kano (BUK) in 2000 and later obtained a master’s in Treasury Management from BUK in 2008.

His professional career includes roles at Nigeria National LNG (2001–2002), Sigma Securities (2002), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) as a forensic accountant. He also worked at Africa Petroleum Nigeria and KPMG (2008–2011), holding certifications as a Chartered Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner.
