Biography

Abdulmumin Jibrin (born 9 September 1976) is a Nigerian politician, businessman, academic, and member of the Nigerian House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano State. He was recently re-elected on the platform of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP).

Abdulmumin Jibrin was born in Kano into the family of Alhaji Labaran Mohammed Jibrin and Hajia Amina Gambo. He had his early education in Kano before being moved to Kaduna and later Abuja where his parents lived at various times to further his studies. He attended Army Primary School Janguza, Kano (1983–1986), before moving to Command Children School Jaji, Kaduna (1986–1988). He had his secondary education at Science Secondary School Abaji, Abuja (1989–1992), and Bwari Secondary School, Abuja (1992–1994).

He later proceeded for his higher education and obtained a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Abuja in 1999, an M.Sc in International Affairs and Diplomacy at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2003, and a Ph.D. in International Relations at the University of Abuja in 2009. He also attended London Business School (2009), Harvard Business School (2009–2010), International Business House, London (2009), and European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD, France, 2009), earning certificates in various programs including Senior Executive Program (LBS), Global Economy Crisis (LBS), Negotiation, Competitive Decision and Deal Process (HBS), Program for Leadership Development (HBS), International Oil Trading (IBH London), and Telecommunications Strategy and Marketing (INSEAD). He completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Program (OSLP) in 2016. He holds an MBA from the Swiss Business School, Zurich (2012–2014).

Abdulmumin Jibrin began his early professional career in media by working with Century Research and Communication Limited and later in the construction industry. After experience in communications and construction, he established Green Forest Investment Limited in 2003. He later became the Managing Director and subsequently Chairman/CEO of Green Forest Group Limited, overseeing subsidiaries in Energy, Property Development, Investment, Agriculture, Construction, and Engineering. He was also Chairman (Nigeria) of Turkish Construction giant TASYAPI between 2010 and 2011. He taught International Relations at Nasarawa State University and authored publications in the field of International Relations, including The New Face of Nigeria’s Foreign Policy and Nigeria’s Role in Peacekeeping Operations in Africa.

He is a member of the Nigeria-America and Nigeria-British Chambers of Commerce. Jibrin was first elected into the Nigerian National Assembly’s House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011. He later decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 and was re-elected in 2015. He served as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, overseeing fiscal matters, budget preparation, and oversight of the Federal Ministry of Finance and its parastatals.

As Chairman of the Finance Committee, Jibrin led investigations into alleged indebtedness of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to the federation account, revealing a non-remittance of N450 billion. He also championed reforms in the insurance industry, tax compliance, and fiscal transparency. His committee played a key role in introducing the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy and reviewing budgets for statutory agencies. Jibrin co-chaired investigations on telecoms, ports congestion, housing funds, and budget implementation. He was also a member of the Foreign Affairs, Gas, Electoral Matters, and Youth Development committees.

Jibrin was a core-sponsor of Speaker Yakubu Dogara’s 8th Assembly Speakership and later resigned from the Appropriations Committee in 2016 amid allegations of budget padding. He was suspended for a year before apologizing and resuming his duties. In 2019, he contested the Speakership but stepped aside for Femi Gbajabiamila. He lost his seat in the 2020 re-run election to Ali Datti-Yako. Afterward, he was appointed Executive Director of Business Development at the Federal Housing Authority in 2020.

Beyond politics, Jibrin is involved in philanthropy, founding Lailife Foundation to support the less privileged and sitting on the board of AYAHAY Foundation, his wife’s charity. He has sponsored events for his alma mater, University of Abuja, and provided academic and infrastructural support. He holds traditional titles, including Jarman Bebeji, conferred by the Kano Emirate Council in 2012. He is married to Maryam Augie-Jibrin and has four children. He has six siblings, two of whom are medical doctors.
