Dan Iya Manir Muhammad

Dan Iya Manir Muhammad Sardaunan Kware is a Nigerian politician affiliated with the People's Democratic Party (PDP), who served as Deputy Governor of Sokoto State from 2018 to 2023. He is from Kware Local Government Area, Sokoto State, and identifies as a Muslim.

Early life and education: Dan Iya attended Magajin Gari Model Primary School, Sokoto (1977–1983), followed by Science Secondary School, Farfaru (1983–1989). He holds a BSc in Economics Education from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and additional qualifications including a Higher Diploma in Accounting and Finance, Diploma in Computer Studies, Diploma in Arabic, and Certificates in Local Government Administration from various institutions in Sokoto.

Career: Dan Iya worked in the Nigerian Civil Service, serving in Sokoto State’s Local Government Service Commission, particularly in Kware Local Government (1992–2002) as Principal Accountant before resigning. He entered politics in 2003 as Kware Local Government Sole Administrator, later becoming Executive Chairman (2004–2007). He was Chairman and Managing Director of Manmodiya Nigeria Limited and served as Special Advisor to former Speaker Tambuwal (2011–2015). In 2015, Governor Tambuwal appointed him as Legal Advisor to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto and later as Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development in the state’s Executive Council (2019).
