Biography

Ahmad Babba Kaita is a Nigerian senator representing Katsina North, affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He previously served as a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, representing the Kankia/Ingawa/Kusada constituency of Katsina State under the Congress for Progressive Change (C.P.C.), which later merged into the All Progressives Congress (A.P.C.). He became a representative in 2011.

Born on 1 August 1968, Kaita is of Hausa and Fulani origin. He completed his primary education at Sada Primary School in Kankia between 1974 and 1980, and his Qur'anic recitation from his father. He attended secondary education at Kufena College Wusasa in Kaduna State between 1980 and 1985.

He obtained a BSc in Sociology from Bayero University Kano in 1992. Following his national youth service in Port Harcourt (1994–1995), he worked for Splendid International Limited for 15 years, rising to managing director. He later worked for Everglades Agencies Limited before entering partisan politics.

His early political career began in 2011 when he was elected to the House of Representatives on the C.P.C. platform, which later merged into A.P.C. He was re-elected in 2015 and sponsored key bills, including amendments to the Terrorism Act and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency Act. He served as Chairman of the House Committees on Housing and Defense.

Elected to the 8th Senate in 2018 to fill the vacancy left by Senator Mustapha Bukar, Kaita was re-elected in 2019, defeating Hon. Usman Mani (PDP) with 339,438 votes. As a senator, he chairs the TETFUND and Tertiary Education Committees and is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition. His legislative focus includes national unity, youth employment, community development, education reforms, and poverty eradication.

He sponsored bills such as the Local Government Autonomy Bill and a renaming bill for Federal Polytechnic Daura, renamed in honor of the late Senator Mustapha Bukar.
