Biography

Sadiq Suleiman Umar was born on January 1, 1971, in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. A senator in Nigeria’s National Assembly, representing Kwara North under the All Progressive Congress (APC) party.

Early life and education: He graduated top of his class in 1987 at Borgu Secondary School, New Bussa, with distinctions. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, a postgraduate diploma in public administration, and a master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management and Developmental Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State. A public health pharmacist, consultant, and development expert, he worked for over two decades in health development sectors like DFID and USAID SCM Projects, focusing on poverty alleviation and empowering women and children.

Political career: In 2019, he was elected to the 9th Senate, serving as chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business and vice chairman of the Primary Health Care and Communicable Diseases Committee. Re-elected in 2023, he now chairs the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment and holds memberships in committees on Appropriation, Power, Finance, Defence, and others. In May 2025, he was appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business for the 10th Senate. His legislative priorities include education, health, infrastructure, water resources, power, human capital development, youth empowerment, and empowerment initiatives.
