Bio

Sandy Ojang Onor, born on 14 February 1966 in Ikom (Ikom LGA, Cross River State), is a Nigerian politician and PDP member who represented Cross River Central Senatorial District in the Senate from 2019 to 2023. He ran with Ambrose-amawhe Emana as his running mate and studied at the University of Calabar.

His early education was at St. Francis (FSLC, 1971-1975) and St. Brendan's (GEC O-level, 1976-1981), both in Obubra LGA. He studied History at the University of Calabar, graduating with a BA (Second Class Upper) between 1983 and 1987, and later earned a PhD in History there from 1988 to 1993. In 1987, he received multiple graduation honors in History at the University of Calabar, including Best Graduating Student in History, the Professor Eyo Ita Prize, and the Chief Ekanem Ita Prize, and in 2001 he received the NLC Prize for Excellence in Labour Management in Cross River State.

Onor is an educationist, administrator, philanthropist, and author/editor whose works include Companion to African History in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries (2017), The Nigeria Civil War: Narratives from Some Border Communities (2016), The Ejagham Nation in the Cross River Region of Nigeria (1994; reprinted 2016), and Local Governance in Nigeria: Evolution, Growth, Problems and Solutions (2005). He is described as married, a devoted Christian, and someone who has influenced policies in the Nigerian-Cross River State local government system.
