Biography
Ibrahim Aminu Ringim, known by his birth name Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, was born on July 14, 1963, in Benin City.
He is an actuary and a Nigerian politician who served as Governor of Jigawa State from 1999 to 2007.
He chaired the defunct SDP and UNCP in Jigawa and represented Jigawa North-West in the Senate from 2007 to 2011.
Ringim attended Federal Government College Kaduna and Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in actuarial science in 1985.
As governor, he prioritized Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for nation-building, established a major biotechnology center in Kazaure, and attracted DFID support for a state microcredit scheme for small-scale businesses.
DFID also partnered with Jigawa to support informatics education abroad, primarily in Japan.
He initiated the Jigawa State Broadband Network Project to enhance socioeconomic growth and digital competitiveness through satellite-based multimedia services, aiming to improve government services, education, commerce, training, and health systems.
Ringim was elected governor in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 on the ANPP platform.
He later joined the PDP in December 2006 and the APC in December 2015.
In the 2023 Jigawa governorship election, he ran on the NNPP platform and lost.
