Biography
Aniekan Etim Bassey is a Nigerian businessman and politician affiliated with the Peopleβs Democratic Party (PDP), currently serving as Senator representing the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District. He holds key roles in the Senate, including Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development.
During his tenure as the 7th Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (2015β2023), he served as Vice Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Chairman of the South-South Speakers Forum, and Chairman of the House Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
Bassey is an Executive Member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (Africa Region) since 2021. He founded the RHAB-YESS Foundation, a non-profit aimed at mentoring young Akwa Ibom entrepreneurs, supporting rural women, and providing scholarships for indigent students. The foundation also offers shelter to vulnerable widows in Akwa Ibom State.
