Sani Bello Abubakar is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2023 Nigerian Senate Elections as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Niger.
Biography
Abubakar Sani Bello (born 17 December 1967), also known as Lolo, is a Nigerian politician representing Niger North Senatorial District in the Senate. He previously served as the Governor of Niger State from 2015 to 2023 and is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was born to the former military governor of Old Kano State, Col. Sani Bello. Bello attended St. Louis Primary School, Kano from 1974 to 1979, followed by the Nigerian Military School from 1980 to 1985. He studied at the University of Maiduguri from 1986 to 1991, obtaining a BSc in Economics. During his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service, he was posted to Port Harcourt, where he worked in the marketing department of NICOTES Services as a Supervisor.
Abubakar Sani Bello won the APC gubernatorial primaries for Niger State in 2015, defeating Senator Musa Ibrahim. He later won the general election with 593,709 votes, declared by INEC on 13 April 2015. He was reelected as Governor on 9 March 2019. During his tenure, he prioritized improving education in Niger State by rebuilding boarding schools and leveraging available resources in the sector.
