Biography

Monday Okpebholo is a Nigerian businessman and politician who has served as the Governor of Edo State since 12 November 2024. He previously represented Edo Central senatorial district in the Senate from 2023 to 2024.

He obtained a degree in Business Administration from the University of Abuja and completed his Master’s thesis in Governance and International Relations from the same institution.

Okpebholo contested for the Senate seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was elected on 25 February 2023. He was inaugurated as a senator on 13 June 2023.

In February 2024, he won the Edo State APC gubernatorial primary election. Later that year, he was summoned by a magistrate’s court over allegations of falsifying his date of birth on his voter’s card, with discrepancies between his stated birth date (1 August 1977) and his WAEC certificate (29 August 1972).

Despite the legal allegations, he was declared the winner of the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election by INEC and assumed office as Governor. The Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal later affirmed his victory on 2 April 2025.
