John Abraham, Godson is a Nigerian politician who contested the 2023 Nigerian Senate Elections in Abia.
Biography
John Abraham Godson (né Godson Chikama Onyekwere; born 25 November 1970) is a Nigerian-Polish politician, university teacher, and former Charismatic minister.
He was born in Nigeria to an Igbo family from Umuahia, Abia State, and later moved to Poland in 1993.
In 2001, he became a Polish citizen. He served as a member of the Sejm between 2010 and 2015, most recently as a member of the PSL.
He ran unsuccessfully in the Polish parliamentary election in 2007 and was re-elected to the Łódź City Council in 2010 with 4736 votes.
As Hanna Zdanowska was elected Mayor of Łódź in the same election, Godson replaced her as a member of the Sejm, being sworn in on 14 December 2010.
He was re-elected as a member of the Polish parliament on 9 October 2011 with 29,832 votes. His campaign was supported by the slogan 'Wiwat! Wiwat polski Obama!' ('Long live the Polish Obama!').
Godson emphasizes the importance of education and holds numerous academic degrees, including a bachelor’s in agronomy from Abia State University in Nigeria (1987–1992).
He also holds master’s degrees in Human Resource Management and Development (Trinity College and Seminary, Newburgh, Indiana, 2000–2003) and International Relations (Łódź Academy of International Studies, 2006–2008).
He completed two doctorate studies: Political Science at the University of Warsaw (2011) and Management at the University of Łódź (2012). He additionally holds a joint MBA/MSPC from Clark University and the Łódź Academy of Management.
A former senior lecturer at the Technical University of Szczecin (1993–1997) and Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, he is a guest lecturer in various institutions globally.
He founded GODSON GROUP—a conglomerate of five companies and four foundations, including the African Institute in Poland and the John Godson Foundation.
The New African magazine named him among the 100 most influential people in Africa in 2015. On 14 November 2016, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs honored him with the Bene Merito distinction for promoting Polish-Africa relations.
