Bio
Mohammed Tahir Monguno (born 12 February 1966) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who serves as Chief Whip of the 10th Senate and has represented Borno North since 2023. This profile entry has a date-of-birth discrepancy: metadata lists 1971-01-01, while the narrative biography states 12 February 1966. He previously represented Marte/Monguno/Nganzai Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023 and served as Chief Whip of the 9th House, with earlier election to the House in 1992 at age 26 before the 1993 military coup ended elected tenures.
Monguno returned to the House in 2007 and served through the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th assemblies, including a successful 2019 re-election in the lower chamber. Before then, he served in the Borno State Executive as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General (2003-2005), Commissioner for Education (2005-2006), and Commissioner for Water Resources (2006-2007). His educational path includes Monguno Central Primary School, Government Secondary School Ngala, law studies at the University of Maiduguri (graduated 1989), and call to the Nigerian Bar after Nigerian Law School in 1990. He also practiced as Principal Solicitor at Monguno Kura Chambers (1992-2003), lectured at Borno State College of Legal Studies until 1999, and served in 2000 on the committee on the application of Sharia law in Borno State.
