Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu (born 25 June 1965) is a Nigerian politician who has served as Governor of Lagos State since 2019. Listed as male and Lagos-born, he contested the 2023 Lagos governorship election on the APC platform with Hamzat Kadri Obafemi as running mate and won with 762134 votes. He became governor after winning the APC governorship primary against then-incumbent Akinwunmi Ambode.
Sanwo-Olu is a graduate of the University of Lagos and an alumnus of the London Business School, Lagos Business School, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. He attended Government Demonstration School, Gbaja Surulere, and Ijebu-Ife Grammar School, Ogun State, and earned a BSc in Surveying and an MBA from the University of Lagos. He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD).
Before and during public service, he held senior roles in finance and administration, including treasurer at Lead Merchant Bank (1994-1997), head of foreign money market at United Bank for Africa, and deputy general manager/divisional head at First Inland Bank (now First City Monument Bank). He also chaired Baywatch Group Limited and First Class Group Limited, served as Special Adviser on Corporate Matters to Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, Acting Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry under Bola Tinubu, Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions under Babatunde Fashola, and later Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation under Akinwunmi Ambode in 2016.
