Bio
Great Ovedje Ogboru, born on 10 April 1958 in Port Harcourt, is a Nigerian businessman and politician with a long record in Delta State opposition politics. He received his early education in Port Harcourt, Abraka, and Ughelli, attended Government College Ughelli (1971-1975), later obtained an external advanced level certificate in 1980, and studied at The Chartered Institute of Marketing in London. He went on to earn an MBA at Huron University USA in London and a master's degree in international relations at the University of Kent, Canterbury.
Ogboru worked as a marketing officer in Lagos in 1984 before founding Fiogret Ltd in 1987, growing it beyond Nigeria, while also investing in other ventures including a Warri-based furniture business and Bureau de Change operations. In 1990, after being indicted in the failed Gideon Orkar coup attempt, he fled Nigeria and lived in London, Angola, and Namibia before returning in June 2000. He then entered partisan politics through the South-South Rainbow Coalition and contested the Delta governorship repeatedly under different parties, including AD (2003), DPP (2007), Labour Party (2011 and 2015), and APC (2019), losing those bids.
In the 2023 Delta State governorship election, he contested as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate with Allanah Chinedu Sydney as his running mate. He lost the election.
