Bio

Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna (born 6 August 1967) is a Nigerian health personnel, businessman, and politician from Kano city. In May 2022, he emerged as the APC governorship candidate for the 2023 Kano State election after serving as Deputy Governor of Kano State from 2018 to 2023 under Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He had earlier served as Commissioner in Kano State from 2014, including as Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, before resigning on 18 April 2022 to contest.

Gawuna was born to Alhaji Yusuf and Hajiya Fatima Shiekh Hassan Gawuna and is described as a descendant of the Garba Gawuna and Sheikh Hassan Gawuna families. He attended Gawuna Primary School (1973-1979), Government Secondary School Gwaram, Science Secondary School Dawakin Kudu (completed 1984), Ahmadu Bello University School of Basic Studies (1984-1985), and Usman Danfodiyo University, where he earned a degree in biochemistry in 1990. He also served as chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area for eight years, chaired Kano State's COVID-19 Taskforce Committee, and was backed by Governor Ganduje as a preferred successor in 2023.
